The change will now allow eligible not-for-profit community groups to access funds for Solar PV projects.

This is a welcomed change by The Australian Solar Council and the Energy Storage Council after strong lobbying on behalf of their members to have the previous Liberal National Party policy overturned.

The committee overseeing the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF) have been directed by the Palaszczuk Government to strongly consider approving grant applications for solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and new technologies, such as battery storage, for the next two funding rounds.

John Grimes, the chief executive of the Solar and Energy Storage Councils say’s “Community and sporting groups know that the best way to slash their power bills is to install solar and battery technology”

“We would like to especially thank the Member for Springfield, Mick de Brenni MP for his strong leadership in coordinating a community petition to have this unfair policy overturned”.

According to Mr de Brenni eligible not-for-profit community groups can apply for grants up to $35,000 with the next round of funding scheduled to open in mid-January 2016 and close midnight 29 February 2016.
