What Does a Home Solar Battery Do?

A solar battery stores the extra power your panels make during the day, so you can use it in the evening and overnight instead of buying it back from the grid.

Most solar homes export surplus power for a low feed-in rate, then pay much more to import power after sunset.

A battery closes that gap.

Energy Capture Efficiency

Store the solar your panels make during the day and use it at night or on cloudy days, cutting your bills and avoiding peak-rate power.

Backup Power Reliability

Keep essential appliances running through outages and extreme weather, giving you an emergency energy supply, and peace of mind.

Enhanced Energy Independence

Rely less on the grid and protect your household from rising electricity prices and grid instability, with more of your power coming from your own roof.

Smart Monitoring Your Energy

Track your solar generation, battery level and home energy usage live from your phone, so you always know where your power is going, and you have full control.

SAE Group stands as a trusted leader in residential solar battery installation, combining industry expertise with cutting-edge technology and customer satisfaction. Partner with us for a sustainable, valuable, and independent energy future for your home.

What Size Solar Battery Do I Need?

Size your battery to your evening and overnight usage, and to the surplus your solar can refill each day.
Many Australian homes land between 10 and 15 kWh of usable capacity.

SAE gives you your price per usable kWh, so you can compare quotes fairly.

To figure out what size battery your home requires, you can:

ANALYSE YOUR DAILY ENERGY USEAGE

Your bills show average daily kWh. When and how much you use helps estimate the storage you need.

MATCH YOUR SOLAR & PEAK PERIOD USAGE

Evenings are when most homes spike. A battery only pays off if your panels can refill it, so we size both together.

EVALUATE YOUR EXISTING SOLAR OUTPUT

Your battery must suit your panels. Then decide on backup: essential circuits or the whole home?

How much does a home battery cost in Australia in 2026?

Most 10 to 20 kWh home batteries cost roughly $7,000 to $16,000 installed after the federal rebate. The final price depends on usable capacity, brand, inverter compatibility and backup. Your SAE quote shows the rebate as a separate line.

Roughly $250 off per usable kWh for the first 14 kWh, with reduced support above that. The STC factor is 6.8 for May to December 2026 and drops to 5.7 on 1 January 2027.

For many solar homes, yes. A battery lets you use your own solar at night instead of exporting it for a low feed-in rate. Payback depends on your tariff, usage and system size, and is often estimated at around 5 to 10 years after the rebate.

Match it to your evening and overnight usage and what your solar can refill. Many homes suit 10 to 15 kWh usable. We size it from your bills in a free assessment.

Only when installed with backup capability: a compatible inverter and a backup circuit. Without a battery, solar shuts down in an outage.

Yes. Batteries connect to new or existing solar. We check your inverter, switchboard and system size first.

Quality lithium iron phosphate batteries typically last 10 to 15 years. Warranties vary by brand and model.

Yes. Your battery must be connected to solar. The rebate applies once per address to eligible batteries from 5 kWh up to 100 kWh.

A VPP links many home batteries to support the grid at peak times, and members can earn credits. Joining is usually optional, but some state incentives, such as in WA, require a VPP-capable battery.
