QLD Government Releases 700 New Battery Grant and Loans for Homeowners and Small Businesses

SAE Group are incredibly excited to announce that 700 additional assistance packages (as of 27th February) are now available under the Queensland Government’s Affordable Energy Plan’s latest initiative. This program is designed to help Queenslanders take back control over their electricity and access more affordable energy by releasing grants and interest free loans of up to $13,000 for solar and battery systems.

If you’re a property owner in the Sunshine State, then this is yet another reason why you’re lucky to live here. In keeping with our early adoption of solar, the Qld government wants Queenslanders to benefit from battery storage to power homes and businesses in to the night.

You could be eligible to purchase either a solar battery storage solution or a combined solar and battery system with financial government support through their loans and grants initiative launched today.

Grants of $3,000 and interest-free loans of up to $10,000 repayable within 10 years are now available to Queensland homeowners and small business owners, to take up the addition of a solar storage battery to existing solar systems, or a solar and battery bundle. Understandably, there has been a hive of activity in the solar market since the initial launch in November 2018 with thousands of applications, and hundreds of solar installations already taking place across the state. If you’ve been one of the lucky ones and have already received approval to go ahead, there is still time for you to shop around and choose the best solar solution suited to you.

Which Package Are You Eligible to Apply for?

Battery assistance packages are now available with the government offering grants of $3,000 and interest-free loans of up to $6,000 repayable within 10 years. If you already have a solar system installed on your residential property but want the benefits of 24 hour solar and the safety of a backup supply in blackouts, then this might be just the option for you.

You can apply for either a grant of up to $3,000, or an interest- free loan of up to $6,000, or combine the two totaling $9,000 for a new battery.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Residential properties only
  • Must have a solar system already installed on the property
  • Not receiving the 44 cent feed-in tariff under the Solar Bonus Scheme
  • Installation is through a CEC approved solar retailer

If you’re a Queensland homeowner, but currently do not have a solar system on your property, then you could be eligible to apply for the loan and grant for the combined solar and battery solution.

You can apply for a grant of up to $3,000, or an interest- free loan of up to $10,000, or combine the two and apply for both totaling $13,000.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Residential properties only
  • Must NOT have a solar system already installed on the property
  • Must not be financing through a solar power purchase agreement or solar lease
  • Installation is through a CEC approved solar retailer
