A High-Usage Family Home Powered by Solar, Storage & Smart Integration

The Household

This busy family home doesn’t do things by halves. With five people under one roof, older kids (the classic “power zappers”), lights left on, air-conditioning running, a swimming pool to maintain and two electric vehicles charging at home, electricity usage here is high and constant.
Like many Australian families, they were feeling the impact of rising electricity prices and wanted a long-term solution that could support their lifestyle without compromise.

The Challenge

Before installing solar and storage, the household was heavily reliant on the grid — especially during peak periods in the afternoon and evening.

Their priorities were clear:
•Reduce ongoing electricity costs
•Protect against future price increases
•Power a high-usage home without changing daily habits
•Future-proof their energy system as demand continues to grow

They needed a system that was powerful, reliable, and simple to manage.

The SAE Solution

SAE Group designed and installed a premium, fully integrated energy system, built for high performance and scalability:

•Large SunPower solar system delivering industry-leading efficiency and durability
•50kWh SunPower battery providing substantial storage and overnight coverage
•Sungrow EV charger supporting two electric vehicles
•Single-app system management for complete visibility and control

The system was designed to work as one and to grow with the household over time.

How the System Performs Day-to-Day

During the day, solar generation powers the home’s core loads including air-conditioning, pool equipment, general household usage and EV charging.

Excess energy is stored in the battery, which now supplies the home through the evening and overnight. Even with above-average usage, the household regularly finishes the day with energy still available in the battery.

As a result:
•Grid reliance has dropped significantly
•Peak-time energy costs have been greatly reduced
•The household is far less exposed to price rises

Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Participation

The system also allows the household to participate in a Virtual Power Plant (VPP).

When the grid requires support, stored energy can be shared — earning credits while helping stabilise the network. Importantly, this happens without impacting the family’s comfort or daily energy needs.

The Outcome

This SAE system allows the family to live exactly how they want without constantly thinking about power usage.

•Kids leave the lights on
•The pool and air-conditioning run when needed
•EVs charge at home using solar
•Energy costs are controlled, predictable, and future-ready

Why This System Works

This case study highlights what SAE systems are designed for:

•Real homes with real energy demands
•Premium products chosen for performance and longevity
•Licensed electricians who design systems around how families actually live

No shortcuts. No one-size-fits-all solutions.
Just smart energy systems, built properly.
