Unlocking Free Power:
Maximise the Solar Sharer Offer with SAE
Get 3 hours of free electricity daily!
The energy landscape in Australia
has just taken a massive leap forward.
Commencing on 1 July 2026, the Solar Sharer Offer (SSO) is a regulated, opt-in electricity tariff designed under the Australian Energy Regulator’s Default Market Offer. This initiative allows households to access the bill-slashing benefits of abundant daytime solar energy.
Whether you are a homeowner or a renter, SAE are here to help you take full advantage of this groundbreaking initiative.
How it Works:
The SSO is incredibly straightforward, but timing is everything.
Here are the core mechanics of the offer:
-
3 Hours Free Electricity
Provided to all households that opt-in to a retail plan that takes advantage of the offer (check your eligibility below!) -
Fixed Local Times
Free periods are fixed local times year-round, accommodating daylight savings natively
-
Capped at 24kWh
The offer is capped at 24kWh of free electricity useage per day during the window. -
Zero Discretion
Retailers have zero discretion to change these times.
SEQ & NSW: 11.00am - 2:00pm | SA: 12:00pm - 3:00pm
The Benefits:
Smart CER Integration with SAE
The greatest benefit of the SSO is that it is available to all households including renters, apartments and solar-free homes. However, to truly maximise your 24 kWh cap, SAE recommends integrating automated consumer energy resources.
The SSO presents an opportunity to deploy these smart resources efficiently:
Smart
Hot Water
Systems can be programmed to strictly heat within the free window
Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging
Chargers or vehicles can be configured to soak up the 24 kWh available daily.
Home Battery
Charging
Battery charging during the free window can reduce the cost of shifting the electrical load of a household to the evening peak.
Energy Intensive Appliances
Appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines or clothes dryers can be set to run during the free window.
Eligibility
and How to Access it
To get started with the SSO, you must meet a few basic requirements:
- An active, operational smart meter is required to participate.
- Coverage is strictly linked to regions under the AER’s Default Market Offer (DMO).
- This covers New South Wales, South Australia and South East Queensland.
- It is currently ineligible in WA, NT, ACT, Tas & Qld (except SE Qld).
